Fuvahmulah City

While most Maldivian islands are known primarily for white-sand beaches, lagoons, and coconut palms, Fuvahmulah features an exceptionally varied landscape. The island is remarkably green and fertile, with tropical vegetation, agricultural areas, wetlands, and two natural freshwater lakes—Bandaara Kilhi and Koda Kilhi. These lakes and their surrounding wetlands provide important habitats for birds and other wildlife.

One of Fuvahmulah's best-known natural attractions is Thoondu, a distinctive beach on the northern side of the island. Instead of ordinary coral sand, the beach is famous for its smooth, rounded white pebbles locally known as *bissaaveli*. The city has its own strong local identity, traditions and dialect, shaped partly by centuries of geographical isolation.
