Alifu Alifu Atoll, also known as North Ari Atoll, is a beautiful administrative atoll in the central Maldives known for its clear lagoons, coral reefs, local island communities, luxury resorts, and excellent diving and snorkeling. Its islands offer a mix of traditional Maldivian life, tropical beaches, marine adventures, and easy access to some of the country's best-known underwater sites.
Alifu Alifu Atoll is particularly famous for its marine environment. Divers and snorkelers can explore coral reefs, channels, reef walls, and underwater pinnacles where reef sharks, rays, turtles, schools of tropical fish, and many other marine species may be encountered. Areas around Rasdhoo are especially well known among divers, while many islands throughout the atoll have accessible house reefs suitable for snorkeling.
Tourism is an important part of the local economy. The atoll includes luxury resorts as well as inhabited islands with guesthouses, restaurants, dive centers, water-sports operators, and excursion providers. Visitors can enjoy activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, dolphin watching, fishing, sandbank trips, island hopping, kayaking, and sunset cruises.
Agriculture also plays an important role on some islands. Thoddoo, in particular, is widely known in the Maldives for agricultural production, including tropical fruits and other crops. Fishing, tourism-related businesses, retail, transportation, construction, and public services also contribute to employment and economic activity throughout the atoll.
With its combination of vibrant local communities, productive islands, attractive beaches, rich coral ecosystems, and established tourism industry, Alifu Alifu Atoll is one of the Maldives' most diverse destinations, offering both authentic local-island experiences and high-end tropical holidays.
