Kaafu Atoll is one of the most prominent and visited atolls in the Maldives, surrounding the capital region and containing a mix of inhabited islands, resort islands, and uninhabited tropical islands. Known for its turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, white-sand beaches, and excellent diving and surfing locations, Kaafu Atoll is also an important center for tourism, transport, trade, and economic activity in the country.

Kaafu Atoll, officially known as Malé Atoll, is a major administrative atoll in the central Maldives. It includes islands belonging to the natural atolls of North Malé Atoll and South Malé Atoll, along with several nearby islands. Because of its proximity to Malé and Velana International Airport, Kaafu Atoll is one of the country's most accessible, developed, and economically important regions.
The atoll contains a diverse collection of inhabited islands, luxury resort islands, industrial areas, and uninhabited islands. Local communities are involved in tourism, fishing, transport, construction, retail, and other service industries, while many islands have developed guesthouses, restaurants, water-sports centers, and excursion businesses.

Kaafu Atoll is internationally known for its beautiful tropical scenery. Its clear lagoons, coral reefs, sandbanks, and channels provide excellent conditions for snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, fishing, dolphin watching, and other marine activities. Popular dive areas feature reef fish, turtles, rays, sharks, and a wide variety of coral and marine life.

The atoll is also one of the Maldives' leading surfing regions, with several internationally recognized reef breaks attracting surfers from around the world. Its many resorts range from intimate island retreats to large luxury properties offering overwater villas, spas, restaurants, diving centers, and water-sports facilities.

Several inhabited islands have become important local-tourism destinations, allowing visitors to experience Maldivian community life while remaining within relatively easy reach of the international airport. Regular speedboats, ferries, private transfers, and resort boats connect many parts of the atoll.

Beyond tourism, Kaafu Atoll plays an important role in the Maldives' transportation and commercial network because of its location around the country's main urban and airport areas. Its combination of modern development, traditional island communities, rich marine ecosystems, and easy international access makes Kaafu Atoll one of the most significant and diverse regions of the Maldives.
