Lhaviyani Atoll, officially known as Faadhippolhu Atoll, is a picturesque atoll in the northern Maldives known for its turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, beautiful islands, and rich marine life. Home to local communities as well as luxury resorts, the atoll is popular for diving, snorkeling, fishing, and relaxed tropical holidays.

Lhaviyani Atoll, traditionally known as Faadhippolhu Atoll, is located in the northern part of the Maldives and is renowned for its clear lagoons, coral reefs, white-sand beaches, and abundant marine life. The atoll contains a collection of inhabited islands, resort islands, and smaller uninhabited islands surrounded by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
Naifaru is the administrative capital of Lhaviyani Atoll and one of its main population centers. Other important inhabited islands include Hinnavaru, Kurendhoo, and Olhuvelifushi. These communities maintain strong connections with traditional Maldivian culture while also benefiting from modern services, transport links, fisheries, tourism, and other economic activities.

Tourism is an important part of Lhaviyani Atoll's economy. Several internationally known resorts are located throughout the atoll, offering overwater villas, beachfront accommodation, diving, snorkeling, water sports, spa experiences, and excursions. The relatively peaceful surroundings and large natural lagoons make the region attractive to visitors seeking both relaxation and marine adventures.

The waters around Lhaviyani Atoll contain healthy coral formations, channels, reefs, and underwater drop-offs that provide habitats for a wide variety of marine species. Divers and snorkelers may encounter reef sharks, rays, sea turtles, schools of tropical fish, moray eels, and other reef life. Some dive sites also feature strong currents and channels that attract larger marine animals.

Fishing has traditionally played an important role in the livelihoods of local communities, particularly tuna fishing and related activities. Tourism, transportation, retail businesses, government services, and small enterprises have gradually diversified the local economy.

With its combination of inhabited island communities, luxury tourism, rich marine ecosystems, traditional Maldivian culture, and scenic tropical landscapes, Lhaviyani Atoll offers a balanced picture of both local island life and modern Maldives tourism.
